Another course we can talk about besides Diploma is B. Pharmacy. It is a 4 year professional degree course about Pharmacy. A senior secondary student with sciences can pursue this course after entrance examination or merit criteria.
This course teaches botany, sources, formulation, dispensing, structure, chemistry, analysis, synthesis, action, duration, kinetics, physics, Industrial application of drugs.
This entire content is studied under four major disciples; Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Pharmacology.
A Pharmacy graduate has many options after pursuing B.Pharmacy. He can make a choice amongst wider career options in comparison to diploma holder. Some of them are discussed below.
Sales of drugs & Pharmaceutical Marketing
It is the most lucrative and highly paid profession whih a pharmacy graduate can adopt. A student has to develop communication skills and generate zeal to sell to make successful career in this field. He must be ready to travel and mingle with new people.
This job can be associated with generic products companies, Indian houses or multinational companies. A person can work with general products, specialized products or superspecialized division.
His profile is to update about the latest technology or drugs or molecules to the practicing medicos so that they prescribe those products. It has hierarchy as medical representative, area manager, zonal manager, and National head and so on.
Indian pharmaceutical industry is growing very fast and day by day has become the largest market providing of generic medicines.
R&D
Low cost of production and R&D has boosted the efficiency of Indian pharmaceutical companies and provided a plenty of job opportunities from Manufacturer, Production chemists to Research analyst, Research scientist, all of which are highly paid professions.
Production of drugs
Pharmacy graduates can easily get job into Production department. He has to learn skills such as monitoring, batch making, inspection, packaging, labeling of pharmaceutical products being manufactured.
A pharma professional get the designation as Production chemist, Chief Production chemist, Production Manager and Production In-charge depending upon experience of work and skills attained.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control
It is another exciting option where the job of a candidate is to ensure safety of manufactured drugs.
Various tests are done; before on raw material, during on processed materials and after on finished products. For this, one should possess technical knowledge of analytical techniques involved.
His profile is to maintain standards in manufactured products and review the quality of all factors involved in production.
Depending upon the seniority, the designation includes Quality Control Analyst, Quality Assurance Analyst, Quality Control Manager and Quality Assurance Manager.
The higher the studies, the more the choices to make. Shall discuss the options available after further studies in the next chapter.
