Tramadol
Tramadol: A joint operation by the excise special squad and drugs control department, Kerala in Kadavanthra, Kochi, has uncovered a disturbing pattern of prescription drugs being sold without proper documentation.
The raid, conducted at Spectrum Pharma, revealed the illegal sale of tramadol tablets, a Schedule H1 drug often misused as a narcotic among students and young adults.
Tramadol Tablets and Other Narcotics
The inspection uncovered that from July alone, the medical store had purchased 20,910 tramadol tablets and sold 18,535 of them, with 2,758 tablets being sold without any records.
Additionally, the medical store was found to be selling Spasmonil tablets, another narcotic drug, without valid prescriptions.
The raid also uncovered a large stock of OCB cigarette rolling papers, often associated with drug use.
Owner’s Other Medical Stores Under Scrutiny
The owner of the medical store, who operates a chain of 13 medical stores in Ernakulam district, will now face further scrutiny.
Authorities have announced plans to conduct inspections at all of these establishments in the coming days.
Legal Implications and Consequences
The excise department has vowed to take strict action against the medical store and its owner, emphasizing the grave consequences of selling such substances like Tramadol under the guise of a legitimate medical establishment.
Drugs Control Department and Excise Authorities Respond
The drugs control department has announced that it will implement strict measures, including the cancellation of licenses, against those found guilty of illegal drug trafficking.
Excise authorities have also initiated steps to identify individuals purchasing narcotic drugs from medical stores.
Inspection Team and Future Actions
The inspection team, comprised of excise officials and drug inspectors, will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary action to curb the illegal sale of prescription drugs in the region.
