7 Tips for Handling & Storage of Skincare products

People now a days spend heavily on skincare & other cosmetic products. Storing & using them in right way not only increases its shelf life but also maintain its efficacy.

This is because many environmental factors such as heat, light and air exposure can accelerate the breakdown of many of the essential ingredients that your skincare products contain.

Cosmetic items, in general, will stay safe and fit for use for their specified life span if maintained properly and not exposed to high temperatures.

So, you can follow these 7 tips for the proper storage of most skincare products: –

1. Always read the instructions carefully; including any warnings for use:

Cosmetic products contain many natural extracts & active ingredients. These special ingredients require a specified temperature or conditions for their storage to protect them from oxidation.

Cosmetic Companies specify this information on their packaging or labels. So never miss out to read any instruction or warning mentioned on the product.

2. Keep Away from Moisture:

Unlike your skin, Skincare products can’t stand moisture, which means, the bathroom counter really isn’t the place to store them.

Moisture encourages the spread of bacteria, so make sure you store containers of gel creams, under-eye serums, etc. in a dry place.

3. Skincare product lids should be properly closed:

Keep product lids on when not in use and use the product within the prescribed time frame.

When cosmetic products are opened, they are exposed to dirt and germs (bacteria, yeasts, and moulds) present in the air, on the skin, and on applicators and brushes.

So it is very necessary to keep the product lids closed when not in use. Keep wide-mouthed jars firmly screwed.

4. Avoid Direct Sunlight:

No product should be stored in direct sunlight. It’s also a good idea to store them in cold, dry environments. Not only that, but you probably don’t want any of your products to be exposed to excessive heat or cold.

Avoid storing your products in the direct sunlight or near sources of heat and choose dry, cool (but not freezing) storage areas wherever possible.

5. Never dilute products or mix them with other products:

Never try to mix your skincare product with any other product. By doing so, it will ruin the formulation of both the products and may have adverse effects on your skin.

Moreover, don’t use containers of different products to procure the product which you are already using.

Never dilute cosmetics since it alters the precise balance of preservatives required to make a product safe.

Products can be mixed only when, it is directed to do so. (which is written on the label, by the company’s product instructions.)

6. Always use fresh or washed applicators:

Apply cosmetics using clean hands or an applicator, and wash all applicators completely with soap, detergent, or a light shampoo on a regular basis.

Allow applicators to dry thoroughly before use. Hot water should be used to clean the spatulas often, and cotton wool should be used to dry them. By doing so, skincare products will get a good shelf life.

7. Products with personalized packaging should be used single handedly:

Some of the cosmetic products that come in personalized packaging for single person use, such as foaming facewash with scrubbing brush, under eye cream with applicator, lip balm with applicator, etc. should never be shared.

Avoid sharing any personalized products with another person. Sharing such products may increase the risk of contamination of products through its applicator.

When it comes to our bathrooms, cleanliness is of the utmost importance.

However, when our skincare regimens take up the bulk of the space on our counters, it’s difficult to keep everything neat in the long run, and we frequently find ourselves storing goods as near to the sink as possible for convenient access.

Regrettably, it may not be the ideal answer for all of our goods.
