15 quick Skincare facts we must know
Ageing, breakouts, dehydrated skin, blemishes, hyperpigmentation, and more are common skincare problems that we deal with.
To help improve the quality of your skin & deal with the above issues, we’ve put together 15 skincare facts that will help you in achieving your skin goals.
1. Exfoliating once or twice a week leaves your skin smooth & refreshed. Always prefer physical exfoliators (without microbeads) as they do not sensitize the skin.
2. Most people with Dehydrated skin think they have Dry Skin. People with dry skin lack skin hydration & natural oils; whereas people with dry skin only lack Hydration.
3. People with oily skin think washing their face again & again will help them get rid of the sticky feeling that comes due to sebum production. But the truth is that over-cleansing leaves the skin dry, signaling our oil glands to produce more sebum. This ultimately leaves the skin more oily and prone to acne and breakouts.
4. Facial Mist (without Denatured Alcohol) helps in hydrating skin & helps in its wear & tear. It makes skin look plumper & dewy.
5. You should never massage the serums into the skin. Dab-Dab is the key to letting the serum penetrate without harming the epidermis.
6. You should detoxify your skin twice a week to remove the dead cells and help the skin rejuvenate cell regeneration. This helps in slowing the process of aging.
7. Include at least one anti-aging solution like a serum, cream, or face mist in the mid-20s, as you tend to develop early signs of aging during this time only. Several anti-aging skincare is specially designed to cater to this age group.
8. Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen (UVA + UVB) for at least 15 minutes before exposing yourself to the sun. Going under the sun without protection is the major cause of early signs of aging.
9. Always lock hydrating gels, creams, serums, or mist with moisturizers (creams or lotions) as it helps protect the skin against Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL).
10. Lack of sleep, Disturbed sleep patterns, and overexposure to screens (blue light) disturb the circadian clock that destroys the healthy skin cells, making them look dull and tired.
11. Moisturize your face every time you wash your face. Always use mild sulfate, silicone & paraben-free cleansers.
12. Touching skin again & again leads to breakouts. Never pop out pimples, rather apply mattifying cream that controls excessive production of sebum.
13. Use body polishers twice a week to remove dead skin cells. Follow with an application of body butter for smoother & radiant skin.
14. Always practice the application of all skincare products to the face, neck & decolletage. Ignoring the neck & decolletage gathers dirt, grime & sebum around that area.
15. Aging is inevitable, but we can certainly slow down the signs of aging by practicing a healthy skincare regime.
5 Skincare tips for all
1. Skincare is a regime & not a one-day miracle.
2. If a product suits your friend doesn’t mean will suit you too. Your skin is unique, recognise its needs & requirements.
3. Never sleep with your makeup on. Always use a makeup-removing oil, balm or cleanser to remove it efficiently.
4. Keep your makeup & skincare personalized (never share) as it may lead to skin infections.
5. Always do a patch test before starting using a skincare product for the first time.
“Good things come to those who truly strive for them. Same applies for skin too.”
