Steps for Skincare Regime (Part – 1)

What to be Followed – Daily / Weekly / Monthly?

Good skin needs a regime, not a miracle. We all know this. There are various steps to be followed regularly in a skincare regime. They are:

  • 1. Cleansing
  • 2. Toning
  • 3. Hydrating
  • 4. Moisturizing
  • 5. Target concerns
  • 6. Skin masking
  • 7. Exfoliation
  • 8. Self-evaluation
  • 9. Expiry check

These are the rituals that need to be performed to achieve flawless skin. But these steps need not be followed daily. Amongst these, a few need to be followed on a daily basis, others on a weekly or monthly basis.

In this article we’ll discuss a skincare regime to be followed daily, and in PART- 2 of this article, we’ll discuss a skincare regime to be done weekly or monthly. Let’s discuss daily skin rituals in detail-

DAILY SKINCARE RITUALS

The skin rituals that need to be followed daily are as followed:

1. CLEANING

Cleaning your face with a facewash & body with a bodywash should be done as a daily ritual for clear & clean skin. This can be done using different cleanser types:

Above are the different varieties of cleansers available on the market for you to choose from. You can choose any of them according to your skin type & preference.

FREQUENCY

  • Face Wash – At least Twice Daily
  • Body Wash – At least once daily

2. TONING

After cleaning your face, the next step comes, i.e., TONING using Face mist or Face Toners.

What is Face Mist or Toner?

Toners or Mist are water-based face sprays that are formulated for special skin concerns. Face mist consists of special active ingredients to solve various skin issues like – Sebum control, skin tightening, skin brightening, Hydration etc.

They also have goodness of floral water, plant-based extracts & Humectants in them to keep the skin fully hydrated. It also gives freshness to the skin & balances skin’s PH level.

Always prefer face mist or toners which are Alcohol Free. They are milder & non-irritant. You can also use Steam distilled waters like Rose, Lavender, Vetiver, Mint etc for natural mist which have mild & natural fragrance.

FREQUENCY

Face Mist – At least Thrice Daily & specially after face wash. Face mist can be sprayed for freshness anytime of the day. You can also apply mist over makeup for a dewy natural glow.

3. HYDRATING

Hydrating skin is the most important step in the skincare regime, which most people skip. It’s important to realize that hydrating your skin is as important as hydrating your body.

Hydration helps in rejuvenation of skin cells, collagen & elastin fibres that helps to protect the skin from early ageing & sagging. Hydration makes dull dehydrated skin appear plump & radiant.

What are the ways in which we can provide hydration to skin?

There are special hydrating gel creams, lotions, gels, serums, or mists that have humectants that bind water particles in the skin cells.

Look on labels for claim like – hydration/ hydrates skin/ humectants etc or specific ingredients like – Sodium Hyaluronate/ Acetamidoethoxyethanol/Glycerine/ honey/ urea etc.

Hydration in the skin needs to be locked up with a barrier. Here comes the role of the next step in your skincare regime.

FREQUENCY

Face Hydrator – At least twice Daily & specially after face wash. Hydrating cream or gel should be applied after face mist on clean face.

4. MOISTURIZING

Moisturizing skin acts as a barrier on the skin to prevent Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) from the skin. Moisturization seals the hydration in the skin and lets the active ingredients in the skincare penetrate deeply without any loss from beneath the skin.

Moisturization helps in making skin luminous & maintain its elasticity. Washing face or body with the cleansers removes protective barrier from the skin which needs to be replenished by using a moisturizer.

  • Face Moisturizers – Creams, Lotions, Face yogurt, Facial oil etc.
  • Body Moisturizers – Body butters, Body lotions, Body oils etc.

FREQUENCY

Face Moisturizer – At least twice Daily or every time you wash face.

Body Moisturizer – Once every day after bath. (You should apply foot cream on clean feet before going to bed)

Do you know what is the difference between Face moisturizers & Body moisturizers?

Actually, face moisturizers contain special ingredients specially according to our face. The choice & percentage of oils, extracts, humectants in them is according to the skin requirements of face.

Have you noticed that our body skin is drier as compare to our face skin? So, Body moisturizers like body butters have higher percentage of butters & oils in them as compared to our face creams.

5. TARGET CONCERNS

This step helps in improving the skin quality according to individual needs. In today’s world, everyone faces one or the other skin issues. All this happens due to pollution, excessive screen time, disturbed sleeping hours, and harmful sunrays, which are the major concerns for skin issues.

People at the age of early 20’s develop early signs of ageing & dark circles is one of the major issue due to disturbed sleeping hours & digitalisation.

People want effective solution for several concerns like early signs of ageing, dark circles & puffiness around eyes, blemishes or acne due to excessive sebum, hair fall, dandruff, hyperpigmentation etc.

Cosmetic companies always cater to their customer’s demand. So, now a days we often hear of products like Serums & Night creams.

So basically, these are the target products that aim to solve various skin issues & concerns. They have great efficacy, which is studied through in-vivo & in vitro studies.

These serums must be used as described in its application procedure on the label.

The procedure & frequency of application of Target Skincare plays a vital role in achieving the efficacy claimed by the product. ‘

Application of products that have active ingredients in them helps in targeting the skin concerns for effective visual solution. But what should be the frequency of using these products?

FREQUENCY

Target Products – The usage & frequency of these products differ, so always strictly follow the instructions of use as described on the product label.

Make sure you seal this product with application of moisturizing cream or night cream.

Below table sum up the above discussion for daily regime of skincare which must be followed religiously for healthy & radiant skin.
